Universal Declaration of Human Duties
Universal Declaration of Human Duties
Because every human being is both an individual and a member of the human community,
because freedom without responsibility leads to erosion,
and because no right can exist without a duty toward others,
we affirm these fundamental duties, shared by all people, regardless of nation, belief, culture, or origin.
Every person shall recognize in others an equal human being worthy of respect.
No one shall knowingly cause physical, mental, or existential harm to another, except when necessary to protect life.
Every person shall speak truth and refrain from using deception to manipulate, degrade, or destroy trust.
Each person bears responsibility for the consequences of their actions upon others and the world, in proportion to their power.
One’s freedom ends where the freedom of another begins.
Those who possess greater power, knowledge, or resources bear a duty to protect and assist those who lack them.
Every person who is able shall contribute to the community through work, knowledge, or conduct.
Humanity holds nature and common resources in stewardship for future generations.
Agreements and laws that enable peaceful coexistence deserve respect.
Every person has a duty to resist dehumanization — in themselves and in others — even when it is uncomfortable or costly.
This declaration does not replace rights; it grounds them.
Rights without duties become demands.
Duties without rights become coercion.
Civilization exists only where both endure.
